Is there a good place to chat (slack etc) about the challenges associated with Trader VDIs?

Dimitry sounds like you run a similar setup to me. Its always a bit of trial and error when it comes to trader workstations.
– Have you tested IDD with GPU?
– What size GPU profile do you use these days, I find 2GB is a little tight now.

Hi Dmitry,

Nice seeing you here 🙂 I must also thank you for helping us to improve this important use case!

The policies you mentioned are fine at their default settings and what I’d recommend. “Enable Lossless” will have no effect, it is a legacy policy which does not apply to modern VDAs (7.x and later).

RE: “Use Video Codec For Compression” policy – the setting “For actively changing regions” is exactly the same as the default “Use when preferred”, so you shouldn’t see a difference between these two settings.

Looking forward to our chat next week where we can discuss your findings in a bit more detail!

Muhammad

Great article! Sounds all too familiar… 😉
I see you recommend using all default policies.
What about following few that are enabled/disabled by default to further improve UX? Do you see any benefit if overriding default for a trader running multiple screens (including 4K) with very active 2D content like bloomberg and similar apps, as well as video content within the same session? And lets not forget any passthrough Citrix sessions inside of user’s already remote desktop session…
– Use hardware encoding for video codec (enabled by default)
– Allow visually lossless compression (disabled by default)
– Enable Lossless (enabled by default, but based on description only applied to VDA 5.6?!?)
– Use video codec for compression (Use when preferred by default, but we find “For actively changing regions” performs slightly better with 21xx VDA).

and then there are multi-4K monitor traders that expect perfect remote session quality over 100ms latency….. that one is a rhetorical statement and does not need a response, unless you have some ideas for that as well 🙂

Thank you again.
Cheers!
