Tailor Citrix client experience with User Group support for Global App Configuration Service

The Global App Configuration Service (GACS) has quickly become a cornerstone for our customers seeking to streamline their Citrix Workspace app and Citrix Enterprise Browser experiences. With its capability to manage settings for both cloud-based and on-premises environments across both managed and unmanaged devices, administrators have the flexibility in delivering the best possible user experience.

Moving Beyond One-Size-Fits-All Settings

Until now, admins could configure the same set of client settings for all users accessing a Citrix store. Now, with the introduction of user group support, administrators can now tailor settings differently for various user personas based on their Active Directory (AD) or Azure Active Directory (AAD) groups.

Please note that this feature is available as a Tech Preview for Cloud Stores currently.

Introducing Configuration Profiles for Enhanced Flexibility

To support user group customization, Citrix has introduced the concept of configuration profiles. These profiles serve as a centralized hub for organizing user groups, providing a higher-level abstraction to simplify configuration management. By creating configuration profiles and associating user groups with them, administrators can efficiently apply settings tailored to specific user groups.

Creating a configuration profile

To get started with user group settings, you first must create a configuration profile and assign it to user groups.

  1. Sign in to your Citrix Cloud account and navigate to Workspace Configuration > App Configuration.
  2. Click Manage configuration profiles.
  3. Click Create to create a configuration profile.
  4. Enter the name, description, and priority of the configuration profile in the Name, Description, and Priority fields respectively.
  5. In the Search for user groups field, enter a keyword and search the user groups that you want to add into this configuration profile. You can add the desired user groups by clicking the user group from the search list.
  6. Click Save.
Go to Workspace Configuration > App Configuration page within Citrix Cloud. Gif walks through creating a configuration profile, including the name, description, priority, and assigned user groups. Gif shows multiple configuration profiles available for use in the environment.

Configure settings for configuration profile

Once you have created your configuration profile, you can apply the relevant settings for those user groups.

    1. Sign in to your Citrix Cloud account and navigate to Workspace Configuration > App Configuration > URL configuration
    2. Select the appropriate configuration profile from the drop-down list
    3. Configure relevant settings for the configuration profile.
Image shows the Workspace Configuration > App Configuration > URL Configuration console. The console includes a dropdown arrow to choose how to apply the settings – storewide or the different configuration profiles.

Clone settings across stores, configuration profile and more

With the introduction of user group support, GACS allows you to replicate a baseline configuration for a store, configuration profile, or a channel. From this baseline, you can apply any needed changes. For example, you can choose to keep the same set of settings across 2 configuration profiles with the exception of a few settings.

The option to clone setting exists between

  1. Stores
  2. Configuration profiles
  3. Channels
  4. Store to a Configuration profile
